IMDB ലോകത്തിലെ 250 ഏറ്റവും നല്ല പടങ്ങളുടെ ലിസ്റ്റില്‍ കുറച്ചു കാലമായി ഒന്നാം സ്ഥാനം ഈ പടം നില നിര്‍ത്തുന്നതില്‍ തെല്ലും അതിശയമില്ല. ഷോഷാങ്ക് എന്ന ജയിലില്‍ വച്ച് പരിജയപ്പെടുകയും പിന്നീട് അടുത്ത കൂട്ടുകാരാവുന്ന രണ്ടു പേരുടെ കഥ. ക്ലൈമാക്സ്‌ ഇവിടെ വിവരിക്കുനത് ഒരിക്കലും നന്നല്ല അതിനാല്‍ ഇത്രയും പറഞ്ഞു നിര്‍ത്തുന്നു. ഓസ്കാര്‍ അവാര്‍ഡിന് ഫോറെസ്റ്റ് ഗുംപിന്റെ കൂടെ മത്സരിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നില്ലായിരുന്നെങ്കില്‍ ഒരു 7 എണ്ണം തീര്‍ച്ചയായും ഈ പടം സ്വന്തമാക്കിയേനെ.
I don't have much to say about this movie except that it is a copy of Escape from Alcatraz (1979) and The Great Escape (1963)which are a few of the best movies of its kind. This film was a box office flop. No wonder why, because if you watch this movie without someone telling you that it has a great theme and all, you will leave the theatre within an hour. The only scene which touched me in this movie is the suicide of a man who comes out of prison after a long period of prison sentence. He has no connections in the outer world and he cannot go back. So he commits suicide. The whole other stuff is bullshit and a copy of the above films. I suggest you to watch films like papillon(1973), The prestige (2006)or The Illusionist (2006) which are worth a watch for sheer suspence and great acting.
